Heavy rain during the day

Dined with the Hawke's
The heaviest rain during the whole day that I think I ever witnessed however having made up my mind to go on shore I started at about 11am in a watermans boat & of course got wet thru & arrived at the Hawkes about 3pm - dined - took my coffee and spent one of the most pleasant quiet evenings I have known for a long time; - played Piquet with Ellen while Sarah sang me some of her delightful songs - exceedingly pleased to find she had written for me Mrs. Astburys beautiful song (Sorrows of the deep) which I had always so myself admired. To finish the evening amused ourselves with that most noble employment building houses with cards blowing them down again!!! had some Negus & hot crossed buns and went to bed.
