ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:

This is a transcript of the journal in the Special Collections and Archives at King's College London.

"The manuscript diary of Charles Morgan Gillham, an officer on board HMS Implacable. The Implacable was stationed at Lisbon from April to July 1839, after which she sailed in a convoy for Malta and Turkey. The diary covers the period from Sunday 24 March 1839 to Friday 13 September 1839 [this is mistakenly given as August in the diary]".

With grateful thanks to Katie Sambrook of the Foyle Special Collections Library, King's College London, for permission to photograph the journal pages and her assistance with transcription.

The final transcription and any errors are the work of Albert F. Gillham and Susan L. Gillham, descendants of George Gillham and Sarah Moore, from photographic images kindly created for them by David Tadd.
